Final day in Kata Beach Puket

This is our final day here. We will go on to Krabi tomorrow by boat. Then on to less populated beaches. Kata is fun but totally set up for the rich jet-set fromnorther Europe. Krabi, being tougher to get to ought to be a little less franchised and a little less crowded. From Krabi we can go to Hat Railay. It should look something like the redoubt used by Scaramanga in one of the Bond movies.
We are having a great time. Today we will hang out by the pool and figure out what the next week will look like. Kata Country house is actually a pretty sweet set-up ($25/night). And there is a 7-11 next door (useful for when Kris wants Pringles at 10 PM). We sat in bed last night watching Talladega nights and eating miniature pringles.
We wnt for a walk on the beach this morning. It was low tide. Unfortunately a lot of trash had washed up on the beach. I guess the last thought in this community is how to deal with trash, which I think washes in alonf the streams from the inland hills where the less affluent live.
PS Kris' hair has never been so frizzy!

Lazy day...

It was overcast and rainy today so we upgraded our room to something even better and by the pool. Maybe we will go on the moped ride tomorrow...

Made it to Phuket!

36 hours door to door. We arrived at Kata Beach on the peninsula generally known as Phuket at 2 AM. Kris is sleeping off jet lag. We are staying at a great place Kata Country inn. There is a tiny 7-11 next door. Food is great. We took a stroll on the beach this morning. Then off to the bar to kick back and teach ourselves the basics of Thai language. Thanks god for hand gestures...

It was overcast and rainy this morning. But it is almost clear now.

Tomorrow we will rent a moped and tour around the island in search of bhuddist temples (and more bars).

Packed up and ready to go

Kris is feeling all better, so we are leaving tomorrow morning.  About 30 hours from Adams Morgan to Phuket.  The flight from NY to Seoul is 15 hours.  Kris checked that the plane type we are flying, a 747, won't run out of gas.

We think we will be back on the afternoon of December 23rd so we can go directly to the "Eve of the Eve" party in NYC with the McSheas.

We'll be staying at the Kata Country House when we get to Phuket:   www.katacountryhouse.com

Still in DC But Pretending it's Thailand...

KD felt good enough this afternoon to get out of the house with Walter to see "W" at the Uptown and then dinner at a Thai restaurant in Cleveland Park.   Not quite like the being in Phuket but we tried our best.

Boo Hoo...

Walter is practicing his Thai and Kristen is resting after having a 101 fever last night.  Instead of leaving for Thailand today, we'll be leaving on Sunday.
